Standard 2: Engages in therapeutic and professional
RN practice is based on purposefully engaging in effective therapeutic and professional relationships. This includes collegial generosity in the context of mutual trust and respect in professional relationships. The registered nurse.
2.1 establishes, sustains and concludes relationships in a way that differentiates the boundaries between professional and personal relationships
Objective: To provide good quality of patient nurse relationship.
Rationale: In order to sustain and provide good quality of life to the patient.
Strategy: As a student nurse when communicating with the patient in gathering data i should maintain my boundaries with my scope of practice in order to established rapport to the patient by respecting the choices of the patients.
Evidence: Maintaining professional boundaries will allow us, as student nurse to gain trust of the patient and providing respect will ensure patient nurse relationship. During clinical placements this will help us in maintaining dignity and respect of our patients.
2.2 communicates effectively, and is respectful of a person’s dignity, culture, values, beliefs and rights
Objective: To maintain the values, culture, beliefs, and rights towards our patients by using strategies and proper therapeutic communications.
Rationale: Therapeutic communication technique enhances professional relationship with the patient that leads to patient's comfort and trust. In that way, respect will always be uplifted all the time and most importantly nurses will be able to gather vital information that is useful for their treatment and well being.
Strategy: Always be aware of your tone, pacing and words. Be mindful of the person you are talking to, because age does matter in terms of comprehension and clarity of your voice when you speak. When you are not confident, give yourself time to learn. Observe with your colleagues when they communicate, and be an active listener to have a better communication.
Evidence: Having a good relationship with your patient is already a vital piece of evidence that you executed your communication skills effectively towards your patient. Also, seeing your patients sharing information that are useful without asking them a questions is an indication that you have been delivering your strategies correctly.

Rationale: This will help me polish my skills and gain more knowledge with the professional nurses i am working with, by allowing my self to be trained and gaining more knowledge by observing and performing such any nursing procedures with the nurses i am working with.
Strategy: Engaging my self to be trained and allowing my self to learn by being competent. in order to do so i should review and practice all the clinical procedure i have learned in the school.
