Standard 3: Maintains the capability for practice RNs, as regulated health professionals, are responsible and accountable for ensuring they are safe, and have the capability for practice. This includes ongoing self-management and responding when there is concern about other health professionals’ capability for practice. RNs are responsible for their professional development and contribute to the development of others. They are also responsible for providing information and education to enable people to make decisions and take action in relation to their health. Rationale: Nurses have an obligation to provide ethical, effective, safe and competent practice. The purpose of professional development is to improve knowledge and skills in order to facilitate individual in providing care to patient with competently addressing the needs of the patient with the set of standards provided by the (NMBA) Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
Strategy: Their are several ways to enhance and develop nurses knowledge and skills by taking professional development courses, professional events where updates are being established and following updated standards of practice by the (NMBA) Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and providing a self check assessment for competencies to determine the capabilities in providing nursing procedures.
Evidence: Continuing professional development (CPD) in Healthcare is fundamental for making sure that nurses staff practice safely and effectively. This will require practitioners to update knowledge and skills in order to render good quality of care to patients.
